Re-signing Rules

Post by Commish » August 28th, 2018, 4:46 pm

These are the rules for re-signing your pending free agents. Each GM is responsible for familiarizing himself with these rules, as it is not the duty of the player agents to teach them to you.

Updated: January 21, 2019

- the player agents reserve the right to ignore any offers submitted incorrectly
- the commissioner reserves the right to dismiss any GM who does not complete his re-signings

Re-signings are currently open.

Submit offers to your player agent as listed below. Agents may take up to 72 hours to respond to your email.

For each player, the following must be filled out.

Prev. Salary:

Calgary Re-signings

Name: Jarome Iginla
Age: 20
OV: 81
Prev. Salary: 625k
Offer: 3 years @ 2.5M/year

Entry Level Contract (ELC) - the first contract a player signs in the league.

Restricted Free Agent (RFA) - any player age 26 or younger during the current season with 1 year remaining on his current contract.

Qualifying Offer (QO) - a 1 year offer worth 110% of the player's previous salary (can only be made to RFAs).

Unrestricted Free Agent (UFA) - any player age 27 or older during the current season with 1 year remaining on his current contract.

There is no limit on the number RFAs a team can re-sign.

In lieu of a contract, a team can make a QO to any of their RFAs. A team retains the rights to a qualified player, even if that player makes it to free agency where he can sign an offer sheet with any other team. If the player signs an offer sheet, his current team has 24 hours to either: match the offer and keep the player under the conditions of the offer sheet, or accept compensation in the form of cash and draft picks (see Compensation Chart in the Rulebook for more details).

Any RFA who has not been tendered a QO and makes it to Free Agency automatically becomes a UFA; his current team will not receive compensation if he signs elsewhere.

Each team may re-sign one of their UFAs each season. The ability to re-sign a UFA is not considered a tradeable asset.

Salary range: 360,000 to 7,200,000

Contract range: 1 year to 5 years

Several factors determine how much your players will request, including:
- age (younger players value salary over term; older players value term over salary)
- overall (OV) rating
- player type (e.g. a sniper and grinder of the same age and OV will have different asking prices)
- contract number (e.g. a player coming off his ELC will be open to a bridge deal where he takes less money but for a shorter term)

Please show respect for the player agents, no matter how frustrating negotiations may get. Keep in mind that they are volunteering their time to do this. Any instances of rude behaviour will be dealt with via fines, suspensions, or firings based on the severity.

Any questions, concerns, or issues are to be directed to the commissioner.

Re-signings are open. Please make sure you are familiar with these rules.

Responses may be closer to 72 hours this year due to the heavier workload.
