The future in Tampa Bay is so bright, they have to wear shades...

Tampa made some amazing moves in the offseason, parlaying their three draft picks, #3, #6 and #20-something, into the 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall was nothing short of amazing.. Picking the Sedin twins and Ryan Miller as their future goalie was a phenomenal steal for the underachieving Lighting.

The season started off with a bang, and at 5-2 after seven games, is nothing short of a miracle. Rookies are paying huge dividends so far, with G Niklas Backstrom, playing like one of the top goalies in the league. At 4-1 with a 2.46 GAA and .919 SV%, he has been playing a game that has been nothing less than remarkable. Here is what he had to say. "I love Tampa! The gulf is warm, the women beautiful, and no income tox! I want to spend my career here! I know Miller is the future goalie of this franchise, but maybe, just maybe, I can make them reconsider."

When GM Salvi was asked if he regretted drafting Ryan Miller 3rd overall instead of Zetterberg, he had this response. "Absolutely not. One position that we didn't need was another Center. Langkow, Niedermeyer and now Sedin have left us stacked. In fact, we are going to have to think of creative ways to get Henrik more ice time, whether that be on the power play, or even the penalty kill. Eventually we would like to pair him and Daniel up on the same line to form a Swedish connection! Some have been saying we mortgaged our future for these guys, but reality is, they are our future. Yes we don't have a 1st round pick in the next draft, but it was worth it to get these three guys. We are hoping that pick ends up a late 1st rounder anyways, and the way we have been playing to start the year, it very well could be. We are still hurting on the blue line and will be looking to upgrade there down the road, but we don't need to rush into any judgement and make a hasty move."

Currently Daniel Sedin is the top scoring rooking in the league, and top scorer on this team. We look forward to seeing what he can do throughout this young season.
